Summer 2010 New Bass Guitar commission

I have built a solid electric bass for a client to his requirements.

My client wanted a simple good looking instrument with only one pickup and as few knobs and switches as possible. He also wanted to include a gretsch roller bridge.

We based the design on a photo he showed me of Billy Bragg playing a custom built Les Paul Junior. I made the bass as a short scale instrument and only had to extent the body shape a little. I used a concentric pot as volume and tone and as there was only one pickup there was no need for a selector switch.

I put the strings through the body and designed an ebony bridge so to as allow for an acceptable string break.

The two woods used were Paduak and ebony which went together well.

I am now about to embark on building an acoustic bass for another client. Watch this space!
